The City of Rockford Health and Human Services Department has announced the availability of the 2024 Community Action Scholarship applications. According to an unknown source, "With the 2024 Community Needs Assessment showing a gap in educational achievement based on race, diverse students are encouraged to apply."

The scholarships offer awards of up to $3,000 with multiple awards up for grabs. To be eligible, applicants must meet household income guidelines, reside in Winnebago or Boone County, and plan on attending a post-secondary accredited school or training program located in Illinois in 2024. There is no age requirement for applicants. The financial assistance provided by the scholarship is paid directly to the institution for tuition and textbooks.

Interested individuals can access applications and eligibility information on the City of Rockford's website or pick up the necessary documents at the Community Action Agency located at 612 N. Church St, Rockford. The deadline for submitting completed applications and supporting documents is 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024. Selected candidates may be contacted for an interview.

The scholarships are funded by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity through the Community Services Block Grant. Applicants are encouraged to apply, especially those from diverse backgrounds, to help bridge the gap in educational achievement highlighted in the 2024 Community Needs Assessment.
