State Representative John M. Cabello of Illinois recently presented the Community Protection Act (HB4852) at a press conference, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing public safety in communities. The legislation aims to enhance transparency and notification procedures regarding the release of offenders back into society.

During the event, Rep. Cabello expressed his concerns about the current treatment of criminals compared to law-abiding citizens, stating, "There is a concerning trend we see here in Illinois where criminals are treated better than law-abiding citizens and as leaders, we cannot continue to jeopardize the safety of our communities."

Highlighting the key aspects of the Community Protection Act, Rep. Cabello underscored the significance of providing notification to victims, local law enforcement, and state attorneys before an offender's release. He emphasized, "Victims and residents have a right to know if someone is being released back to their community."
