Illinois News Roundup

ILLINOIS – Below is a selection of articles highlighting the current state of Illinois. Topics include the economy, taxes, corruption, and education.

Economy:

Illinois was ranked the worst state for economic health in a recent WalletHub study. Decades of corruption, high taxes, wasteful spending, and activist legislation have stifled Illinois’ potential for economic growth and reduced opportunities for residents.

Taxes:

Illinois consistently ranks worst in the nation for tax burdens. "We need to rein in our state’s out-of-control spending to provide tax relief to ALL Illinoisans and help our residents thrive."

Education:

In 2023, just 35.4% of Illinois public school students were proficient in reading and 27.1% in math; those numbers were even worse for low-income students.

Corruption:

The U.S. Supreme Court has overturned the bribery conviction of a former Indiana mayor. This decision is expected to impact former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan’s corruption trial set for later this year.
