Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met July 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self

Staff present: Sally Bennett & Adam Bunge

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of June 17, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that he has a meeting with Richard Barnes from the Red Barn Golf Course and his attorney on July 11th. Mayor Peterson stated that he has a list of incidents that have occurred at the condos.

Mayor Peterson stated that Chief Hollinger is looking into increasing security at Village Hall. Mayor Peterson said that this can be done in phases, but that he is concerned about security at Village Hall.

Mayor Peterson said that the Village is looking into options for the Sonoco property. Mayor Peterson stated that Ms. Diduch is getting more information regarding the Brownfield grant, but that the Village could clean it up and use or sell the property as well. Mayor Peterson said that the Village would need to get a Phase I on the property to be eligible for the Brownfield grant. Mayor Peterson added that there is also a railroad right of way going through the Sonoco property and that Ms. Diduch is working on this as well.

Mayor Peterson said that the downtown streetscape grant proposal is up for approval at the Village board meeting on July 2nd and that she will be emailing everyone the downtown streetscape plan again.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Motion by Ms. May to approve the purchase requisition for Gasvoda & Associates for a grinder pump for the Prairie Street lift station in the amount of $4,745, second by Mrs. Honkamp. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

Ms. May stated that the purchase requisition for Lee Jensen Sales for a trench box is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 2, 2024. The Committee was okay with this.

Ms. May added that the blanket purchase orders (Water & Sewer) are also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner to approve the purchase requisition for LaBree Concrete for gutter replacement at 203 E. Union Street in the amount of $2,200, second by Ms. May. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

Mr. Baumgartner stated that the purchase requisition for KM international for a two-ton hotbox trailer with accessories in the amount of $29,655 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 2, 2024. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Baumgartner said that the purchase requisition for Enterprise Lease for a 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500HD with a plow, lights and box from Bonnell in the amount of $113,000 is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Baumgartner stated that the blanket purchase orders (Streets) are up for approval at the Village Board meetings as well. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Baumgartner added that the special events application for the “Hononegah Homecoming Parade” to be held on Friday, September 20th at 4:20 pm on Main Street (downtown) is up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee is okay with this.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

Mrs. Honkamp stated that the blanket purchase orders (Buildings & Grounds) are up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 2, 2024. The Committee was okay with this.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department is starting to use hot mat for patching. Mr. Barber said that maybe a few years down the road the Public Works Department can purchase a roller to patch larger areas, but for now they are limited to smaller patches.

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that he and Mr. Costello started training with the new Brightly Software and so far it’s been great.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that the boat ramp installation is delayed due to the river being high.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that there was recent vandalism at the Rockton Athletic Complex. Mr. Self said that picnic tables and benches were flipped over along with port o potties being knocked over.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

None.

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner, to adjourn at 7:11 pm.
