Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Aug. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:31 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self Staff present: Sally Bennett & Adam Bunge

Absent: Dan Baumgartner

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Ms. May, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of July 15, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that he and Atty. Szeto are going to have another conference call with Richard Barnes, owner of the Red Barn Golf Course, along with his attorney on Thursday. Mayor Peterson said that he wants to know what steps have been taken to rectify the problem with golf balls hitting the surrounding properties.

Mayor Peterson stated that he and Mr. Self talked about keeping the pool open for one more week for adult swim.

Mayor Peterson said that they are going to discuss the Village Administrator position further at the next Administration Committee meeting.

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that the 3M film and the intercom system have been installed at Village Hall.

Mayor Peterson stated that he appreciated Ms. May’s help on Saturday presenting a certificate to the Talcott family at the Rockton Historical Society since he was out of town. Ms. May stated that it was very informative and encouraged other trustees to check it out.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Ms. May stated that the purchase requisition for Ferguson Waterworks for fire hydrant parts in the amount of $22,378 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on August 6, 2024. Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department will install them. The Committee was okay with this.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mrs. Honkamp stated that the purchase requisition for William Charles Electric for UPS system (power backup system) installation at Rockton Road and Highway 2 in the amount of $8,100 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on August 6, 2024. The Committee was okay with this.

Mrs. Honkamp stated that Resolution 2024-111: Authorizes Appropriation of $275,000 in Motor Fuel Tax Funds from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

Mrs. Honkamp stated that the special events application for “Jack’s Joy Ride” to be held on Saturday,

October 5th from 2-6 pm in Settlers Park is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on August 6, 2024. The Committee was okay with this.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department is very busy and that they are getting a lot done. Mr. Barber said that the asphalt box came in and that they have used it a few times already.

Mr. Barber said that he has received complaints about yellow water in the Woodlands and Old River Hills Subdivisions. Mr. Barber said that this is due to tuberculation in the pipes and that they will be flushing those areas affected.

Mr. Barber said that they have replaced two water services in the Village and that they are continuing to move forward with this.

Mr. Barber stated that the new Public Works employee that was just hired is leaving after only working for the Village for 2.5 weeks. Mr. Barber said that he has already placed an ad in Indeed to fill the position.

Mr. Barber said that at approximately 5:30 pm this evening that the Canadian Pacific Railroad blew out the railroad tracks on Main Street as the train came through town. Mr. Barber commented that they should be here in 1.5 hours to repair the tracks.

Mr. Barber stated that they are getting information entered into the new software program. Mr. Barber added that they have been discussing training at Village Hall for an active shooter situation as well.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that this is the final week of the regular season at the swimming pool. Mr. Self said that they will be open another week for adult swim and that he has 11 pool rentals left to finish out the season. Mr. Self added that he spoke to Brian Elmer to replace the gas line from the water main to the heater at the pool.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that the boat dock was delivered, but may not be installed due to the high water levels of the river.

Mr. Self said that flag football registration is still open and that there is a wide range of ages that have already registered.

Mr. Self stated that the athletic fields are ready for football. Mr. Self said that the Junior Indians are still at Riverside Park, but are using the athletic fields for practice.

None.

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Ms. May, to adjourn at 7:00 pm.
