Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and State Representative John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) will host a free shred event in Freeport on Saturday, October 5th. The Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department is also participating.

Residents can bring paper documents to be professionally shredded and discarded securely at the event:

Date: October 5, 2024

Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: Highland Community College, 2998 West Pearl City Rd., Freeport, IL, Parking Lot B

The event has been successful in the past, highlighting the demand for secure document shredding in the area. "With consumer fraud and digital hacking on the rise, now is the time to take the steps to keep your personal data safe. Please utilize this free shred event and make it even harder for bad actors and scammers to steal your information," said Cabello.

"I am pleased to offer this event to residents so that they can rest assured their personal information is not compromised," said Leader McCombie. "I encourage everyone able to stop by the event and take the extra step to protect you and your family from possible identity theft."

The lawmakers recommend residents use this opportunity to dispose of any paper documents containing sensitive personal information safely. The event is free and open to all residents of the 89th and 90th House Districts. Attendees are encouraged to limit their items for shredding to two bankers boxes as the event will end once the truck reaches capacity.

For more information about this shred event, contact Representative Cabello’s office at 815-974-0090 or Leader McCombie’s office at 815-291-8989.
