Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Sept. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 5:36 pm. Members present: Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Jodi May and Don Self

Staff present: Sally Bennett & Adam Bunge

Absent: Mayor Peterson & Arianne Honkamp

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Ms. May, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of September 3, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

None.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

None.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mr. Baumgartner discussed the 1% sales tax with the Committee. Mr. Barber said that the Village doesn’t have to run a referendum in regards to this and that an ordinance can be passed in March or April 2025 to continue the sales tax. Ms. May commented that the Village should just pass it in January or sooner. Mr. Barber said that he will touch base with Atty. Szeto about drafting the ordinance.

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that the low bid for Washington Street and the Rockton Athletic Complex was Northern Illinois Service Company for $779,868.15 and that this is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on September 17, 2024. Mr. Barber said that the bid came in over the engineer’s estimate and that he is going to move some funds around in the budget in order for this project to happen. Mr. Barber said that they won’t have to pay out any funds for the Old River Road bike path this year so he will use those funds for this project. Mr. Barber assured the Committee several times that this will not affect the Old River Road bike completion. Mr. Barber added that the engineering costs for the project is $79,110 with a total cost of $858.978.15. Mr. Barber stated that the Village Board can approve the engineering costs at the next meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Baumgartner stated that the purchase requisition for Roscoe Garage Doors for new springs and cables on the garage doors at the Public Works building in the amount of $22,500 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting as well. Mr. Barber stated that this will replace the springs and cables on five garage doors and that this was budgeted for. The Committee was okay with this.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that they replaced another lead service line last week and that they are replacing one tomorrow.

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that he and Mr. Costello are working on entering information into the new software system. Mr. Barber said that he is entering vendor information and Mr. Costello is entering asset information.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that he spoke with the Rockton Lion’s Club and that he is going to be presenting information at one of their upcoming meetings for a shade structure donation to the pool. Mr. Self stated that he would like to place the shade structure inside the fenced in area and that it will cover a portion of the pool. Mr. Self added that he is currently working on donation plaques to recognize the Rockton Lion’s Club for previous donations to the Village. Mr. Self said that once he receives the proofs that he will share those with the Committee.

Mr. Self stated that he met with a playground installation company in regards to the Woodlands Park because one of the slides needs to be replaced. Mr. Self added that he is also getting more information about installing a new flag pole and concrete borders. Mr. Self also discussed the swing sets in Village Green Park and stated that he is working on making sure they are ADA compliant.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that Garcea Technologies came out to his office in Barkwood Park and that a new cradlepoint is being installed since it was recently approved.
