Illinois State Police Trooper Corey S. Thompsen has died following a collision while on duty. The 28-year-old officer was conducting traffic enforcement in Champaign County when a truck entered an intersection and hit his motorcycle. Despite immediate assistance from a witness and first responders, Thompsen was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Trooper Thompsen had served with the Illinois State Police for nearly five years. He is remembered as a dedicated law enforcement officer and a beloved husband, son, and brother.

The driver of the truck was cited for failing to yield at a stop intersection and for having an expired driver's license. She sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

"Our hearts go out to Trooper Thompsen’s family, friends, and colleagues. We ask for your prayers and support during this time."
