Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Sept. 30.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self

Staff present: Sally Bennett & Adam Bunge

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of September 16, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

None.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Ms. May stated that the purchase requisition for Northern Illinois Service Company (NISC) for a four inch water valve replacement on School Street in the amount of $13,910 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on October 1, 2024. Mr. Barber said that he’s not comfortable with his guys doing this because it’s a transient main. Mr. Barber said that the price was reduced by a couple thousand dollars since NISC is currently working on Washington Street. The Committee was okay with this.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mr. Baumgartner stated that the engineering costs for the Washington Street and Rockton Athletic Complex project is up for approval at the Village Board meeting in the amount of $79,110. Mr. Barber advised the Committee that $66,773.40 is for Washington Street and $12,336.60 is for the Rockton Athletic Complex. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Baumgartner added that the purchase requisition for Countryman, Inc. for restriping various roads in the Village at a cost of $15,234 is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. Mr. Barber said that he did a cost analysis and that this will save the Village because he was paying overtime for his crew to go out and do this. Mr. Barber stated that the paint will also last three to four years versus the one year when the Village does this. Mr. Barber said that this won’t get done until the spring, but he needs to book it now for them to do it. The Committee was okay with this.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department replaced a couple more service lines and that he’s still working on data entry for the new software. Mr. Barber said that hydrant flushing was starting today throughout the Village and that the Public Works Department is remaining very busy.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that the Rockton Lion’s Club auto show is this Sunday at the Rockton Athletic Complex and that there’s lots of football games there as well. Mr. Self said that baseball and concession stands are still going strong and that both football and baseball will end mid-October.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

None.
