A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Boone County, Illinois, on October 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Rockford Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for logs from January 1, 2024, until October 7, 2024. The fields requested include the requester's name and organization, the content of the request, the date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe that access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have also requested a fee waiver as part of this process due to our role in disseminating information.
In related news, The Illinois Department of Transportation announced in July 2023 an extensive multi-year program named Rebuild Illinois aimed at improving and repairing all modes of transportation. Governor JB Pritzker stated that over $40 billion would be invested over six years to improve transportation across Illinois. This investment will lead to better roads and bridges, modernized transit and aviation systems, as well as expanded and faster passenger rail service.
According to official reports from the Illinois Department of Transportation, ten major projects are currently being planned or implemented in Chicago under Governor Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois program. A total investment of $396 million is being poured into these projects with an aim to improve safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges. Three out of these ten projects are scheduled for completion in 2024 while the remaining seven are projected for completion between 2025 through 2030.
In Kane County alone, seven projects worth $107 million are slated for completion under the Rebuild Illinois program. In central Cook County, the program is investing $220 million in ten projects focused on constructing roads and bridges.
