State Representative John M. Cabello, a Republican from Machesney Park, has announced his legislative agenda for the 104th General Assembly. The agenda focuses on restoring law and order, protecting taxpayers, and defending Second Amendment rights. It includes proposals to repeal certain policies, ease property tax burdens, and increase accountability among public officials.

Cabello stated that "Illinois is broken because of weak leadership and bad policies," emphasizing that his proposed bills aim to empower citizens, hold politicians accountable, and prevent taxpayers from bearing costs related to illegal immigration, corruption, and anti-gun laws.

The legislative package includes several key proposals:

- Repealing the TRUST Act with HB1029: This bill would require law enforcement to cooperate with federal immigration officials and prevent Illinois from being a sanctuary state.

- Defending the Second Amendment through two bills: HB1067 aims to "Void the FOID," while HB1040 seeks to repeal Illinois' assault weapons ban known as the PICA law.

- Extending the property tax appeal window from 30 days to 60 days with HB1846: This measure would provide homeowners and businesses more time to contest tax assessments.

- Requiring public officials to wear body cameras with HB1039: This proposal intends to deter corruption and misuse of taxpayer funds.

- Lowering the legal drinking age under certain conditions with HB1019: Modeled after Wisconsin's law, this bill allows those aged 18 or older to drink alcohol in bars if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Cabello expressed pride in advancing what he calls a "common-sense agenda" supporting gun owners, taxpayers, and those opposed to government overreach. He emphasized that it is "time to take our state back."
