State Senator Dave Syverson of Cherry Valley is urging the residents of Illinois to recognize Cheap Trick Day, which marks its 18th anniversary this April 1st. The day celebrates the legacy of the American rock band formed in Rockford, Illinois, in 1973, known for their influential music.
The current lineup of Cheap Trick consists of frontman Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Daxx Nielsen. Senator Syverson highlighted the band's significance, stating, "Illinois is fortunate to claim Cheap Trick as one of its own for more than 50 years. It is a favorite band that we remember from our youth."
Reflecting on the origins of the celebration, Syverson explained, "On April 1, 2007, I had the privilege to sponsor legislation creating Cheap Trick Day to be celebrated every April 1 in Illinois."
Since its inception, the band has achieved a notable milestone by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. As noted by Senator Syverson, "With the profound impact Cheap Trick has had on music for 52 years, we are proud of their accomplishments, beyond happy they are still entertaining in venues around the world, and pleased they still call Illinois home."
