State lawmakers in Springfield did not pass any ethics reform legislation during the recent committee deadline week. This decision has left House Republicans frustrated, as they accuse their Democratic colleagues of refusing to bring bills addressing corruption to a committee vote.
Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) expressed his disappointment, stating, "When Democratic politicians were arrested, indicted, charged, convicted and incarcerated, we waited for action. We’ve been disappointed time after time."
The Republican ethics proposals will return to the House Rules Committee, which effectively halts them unless Democratic leaders decide to extend the deadline for these bills to be discussed in committee.
Since the session began in January, the House Ethics & Elections Committee has focused solely on election bills. Further details and coverage are available on WAND News by Mike Miletich.
