Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met March 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self Staff present: Sally Bennett , Jake Costello and Adam Bunge

Also present: Dave Bennington, Spencer Cushing and Sarah Doerflinger

Absent: Dan Barber

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of March 3, 2025. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that there will be special Village Board meeting held on Monday, April 7th at 6 pm in reference to the Village Administrator position. Mayor Peterson said that this will be a kick-off meeting where the Village Board will meet with Mark Peterson from MGT Impact Solutions, LLC to discuss the recruitment process and schedule. Mayor Peterson added that Mr. Peterson will also be meeting with department heads and Village Trustees individually.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Motion by Ms. May to ratify the consensus for Midwest Directional Drilling, Inc. for the water line repair at 109 W. Warren Street in the amount of $2,400, second by Mr. Baumgartner. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mr. Baumgartner stated that Resolution 2025-107: IDOT Rebuild Illinois Funds for Race Street Project ($120,000) will be up for approval at the Village Board meeting on March 18th. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Baumgartner added that the purchase requisition for Premier Pavement Solutions for sealcoating the public works facility in the amount of $31,500 is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this, but Ms. May advised that they will check with Atty. Szeto about waiving the formal bid process.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Costello stated Metronet is currently working in the Village right now installing fiber.

Mr. Costello added that he is working with Deputy Chief Jobst in reference to the Ironman triathlon which will be held on Sunday, June 22nd. Mr. Costello said that the Public Works Department will need crowd control barricades, cones, fencing, etc… for the event.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self advised the Committee that he met with several landscaping companies in reference to replacing/repairing the stone landscaping wall in Settlers Park. Mr. Self said that the proposals are due by the end of the month and that he will be budgeting for this in next year’s budget. Mr. Self added that there will also be alternate plans using the existing stone

Mr. Self said that he met with some people in reference to the temporary disc golf course in Barwood Park. Mr. Self stated that Atty. Szeto put together a waiver form for volunteers to sign. Mr. Self stated that they are interested in holding a tournament in June, but may want to hold another tournament in the fall.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that baseball is in full swing at the athletic complex and that a lot of the soccer games were moved to the Indoor Sports Center, but they are practicing at the athletic fields.

Mr. Self commented that he is looking for a pool manager and that he is also hiring lifeguards for the pool, but they need to be certified.
