Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met June 16.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Chairman Baumgartner called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Dave Bennington, Don Self and Jamin Unger
Staff present: Adam Bunge
Motion by Mr. Unger, second by Mr. Bennington, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of June 2, 2025. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Mrs. Bennett stated that the Village received a check in the amount of $93,182 from the PFAS class action lawsuit and that this in only 20% of what the Village will be receiving in total.
VILLAGE ENGINEER – ADAM BUNGE
Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.
MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON
Mayor Peterson advised the Committee to let the Village Clerk know if they plan on attended the Illinois Municipal League (IML) conference in Chicago so that she can register them for the conference and make hotel accommodations.
Mayor Peterson stated that there were no garbage cans along Main Street from the Old Settlers Days (OSD) festival to the downtown area and that we need to do this next year. Mayor Peterson added that the Police and Public Works Departments did a great job over the weekend.
Mayor Peterson stated that there are volunteer opportunities for the IRONMAN Triathlon and to see Ms. Diduch if anyone is interested.
Mayor Peterson said that this Saturday there will be a shredding event at the Goldie Floberg property from 8-10 AM.
BUILDINGS AND PARKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER
None.
WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JAMIN UNGER
Motion by Mr. Unger to approve the purchase requisition for M.E. Simpson to locate water services in the amount of $2,650, second by Mr. Baumgartner. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
Mr. Unger stated that the purchase requisition for Ferguson Waterworks for two fire hydrants in the amount of $8,322.86 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on June 17, 2025. The Committee was okay with this.
Mr. Unger added that the purchase requisition for Core & Main for Ally water meters with couplings in the amount of $11,844 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting as well. The Committee was okay with this.
STREETS AND WALKS – DAVID BENNINGTON
Motion by Mr. Bennington to approve the purchase requisition for William Charles Electric for a new light pole in the amount of $3,680, second by Mr. Baumgartner. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
Mr. Bennington stated that the low bid for Bristlewood Court was from Rock Roads Company in the amount of $154,037.95. Mr. Bennington said that this is up for approval at the Village Board meeting contingent upon any bid protesting. The Committee was okay with this.
PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER
Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department had three service line repairs and two main breaks in the last week.
Mr. Barber advised the Committee that they will be setting up for the IRONMAN Triathlon early Sunday morning and that he will have extra employees, in addition to himself, coming in to make sure everything is in order.
Mr. Barber stated that the lift station was approved last week and that he had a preconstruction meeting today for that.
Mr. Barber commented that Metronet hasn’t been notifying residents when they’re going to be working in the area and that this has been an ongoing problem. Mayor Peterson asked Mr. Barber for their contact information and advised that he will contact Metronet about this.
PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF
Mr. Self advised the Committee that there are regular baseball leagues at the Rockton Athletic Complex and that “Movies in the Park” will be held on Saturday.
Mr. Self stated that things have slowed down this week and that he found another company that paints pools and installs PVC liners. Mr. Self said that he will have four quotes for the pool after he has this other company submit a proposal.
