A recent change in Illinois law has removed the blood type field from state driver’s licenses. House Bill 1120 eliminates non-certified medical information from the back of these licenses, addressing concerns about confusion among first responders due to inaccurate data.

State Senator Dave Syverson commented on the update, stating, "This commonsense update improves efficiency and ensures that licenses only contain accurate and relevant information."

Syverson, a Republican, has represented Illinois' 35th Senate District since 1993, succeeding Christine J. Johnson.
