The compromise school funding bill that now has become law contains a provision that helps guarantee a high quality of education for all students in Illinois, Rep. Joe Sosnowski (R-Rockford) said in a statement.
"This compromise bill brings a scholarship system to Illinois that will allow students from all walks of life to access excellent schools and will allow parents the opportunity to choose which type of education best fits their family," Sosnowski said.
Sosnowski was one of 74 representatives to vote for SB1947, which passed the House on Monday. It passed the Senate a day later and was signed into law on Thursday. While the measure introduces an evidence-based funding system, it was the tax credit provision for scholarship donations that Sosnowski saw as particularly meaningful.

"If families are in failing school districts, they will have alternatives," Sosnowski said in his statement.
