Winnebago Community Unit School District 323 students suspended 36 times in a single school year

Winnebago Community Unit School District 323 reported 36 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred three students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 36 students during the year. That equates to 2.6 percent of the 1,386 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes nine incidents. For nine incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 21 incidents. There were five incidents of drugs. For 12 incidents, students were suspended for 3-5 days.
