Lewis Lemon Elementary reports 51% truancy rate

The truancy rate at Lewis Lemon Elementary rose to 51 percent during the 2016-17 school year, according to a Rockford Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The schools average daily attendance rate was 88 percent.

Students are considered chronically truant if they miss 5 percent of school days or more per year without acceptable excuses. The Rockford SD 205 saw a chronic truancy rate of 8 percent during the 2016-17 school year, while the statewide rate was 11 percent.

The school enrolled 395 students in the 2016-17 school year, and average daily attendance was at 88 percent for the year, the Illinois State Board of Education reported. The average daily rate of attendance across the state was 94 percent.
