SwedishAmerican Hospital issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.
Tammy Walker, SwedishAmerican Licensed Massage Therapist recently completed the highest and most rigorous course of study set forth by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, the Oncology Massage Specialty Certificate Program.
Walker completed 275 hours of hands-on training with oncology patients through the program. The program taught her how to demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to work safely and effectively with cancer patients.
“Tammy has been a licensed massage therapist with Holistic Health for 10 years,” Manager of Holistic Health and BetterLife Wellness Ann Sammons said. “We’re proud of her accomplishments and excited to share her expertise with patients in the hospital and Regional Cancer Center.”
Training included in-depth knowledge of the disease process, treatments and side effects, and how to make appropriate adaptions to the massage intervention.
