The most recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security showed unemployment in the city of Rockford dropping to 5.5 percent in September, a.5 percent drop from the same period in 2017 and the lowest rate in more than 12 years. The largest gains were in manufacturing, with 800 new jobs added in September.

“These are great numbers and the long-term trends are certainly promising both in the city and our region,” said Mayor Tom McNamara. “We continue to focus on creating a positive climate for businesses to locate in Rockford or expand existing operations. And, we’re developing new ways to prepare our workforce for the needs of our employers.”
