Former state school employee Gunvalson Anderson paid in $16K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $756K in retirement

Former state school employee Mary Gunvalson Anderson, who retired in October 2018, saved $15,987 toward a pension over 10 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Gunvalson Anderson would collect as much as $756,152, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rockford Sun.

The projection assumes Gunvalson Anderson received $15,893 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Gunvalson Anderson will have already received $32,263 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
