Rep. Joe Sosnowski (R-Rockford) finally gave his yes vote on House Bill 1839 filed by Rep. Margaret Croke (D-Chicago) after the bill’s House floor amendment was adopted.
The introduced version of the bill stated that the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity may provide development assistance if there have been no investigations conducted on the business entity applying for assistance. Croke explained the amendment to Sosnowski during the April 22 House floor debate.
“The opposition was removed, could you touch on what their original opposition was?” Sosnowski asked.
According to Croke, one of the previous concerns was the use of the term “investigate.” “We removed that,” she explained. “There have to be actual charges or complaints that led to a judicial proceeding and we also changed it from revoking the exemption or credit to suspension.”
The bill was previously objected to by House State Government Administration Republican Spokesperson Sosnowski during its March committee hearing. But he agreed to adopt the recommended House floor amendment.
Sosnowski joined 114 House members in passing the bill, which now awaits Senate committee assignments.
