State Rep. Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) invited his supporters to the 2023 Mayors' Memorial Day Breakfast in a Facebook post published on Monday.
"It is my honor to serve as a co-sponsor and invite you to participate in a long-standing tradition, the 2023 Mayors' Memorial Day Breakfast," Keicher wrote. "The 31st annual breakfast will be on Monday, May 29, from 6:45 am - 8:00 am at the Elks DeKalb Lodge #765, 209 S Annie Glidden Rd, DeKalb. You can RSVP with this form, but walk-ins are welcome."
Admission is $10 per person in advance, $15 at the door. The breakfast itself will run from 6:45 to 7:15 a.m. followed by a united prayer at 7:15 a.m. and a program from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.
Keicher is a DeKalb resident who was first elected to represent Illinois' 70th District in the State House of Representatives in 2018. His legislative experience includes serving on the Immigration & Human Rights Committee and the Cybersecurity, Data Analytics & IT Committee.
On April 4, Keicher joined Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), Northern Illinois University (NIU) President Dr. Lisa Freeman, and other local and state leaders at an event at NIU to highlight investments in higher education, including Monetary Award Program (MAP) grants.
“As the child of a single mother who waited tables to keep a roof over our head, the MAP grants I received while attending Northern Illinois University provided stable funding to allow generational change for my family and me,” said Keicher. “The MAP Grant Program is an investment that has the power to change long-term outcomes, and our attention to funding for colleges and universities is what allows us to continue offering the promise of a better future to families in Illinois.”
On April 11, Keicher announced that the State House had unanimously approved a resolution that he had sponsored. House Resolution 92 declares April 2023 as Prescribed Burning Awareness Month in Illinois. Keicher noted the benefits of prescribed burning programs while presenting on the House floor.
“Prescribed burning programs throughout our state play a valuable role in preserving our natural habitats. This traditional method of land management not only provides ecological support, but also ensures long-term economic benefits,” said Keicher. “I want to thank the Nature Conservancy for their advocacy, as well as their work at sites like the Nachusa Grasslands, which is a perfect example of the benefits of prescribed burning."
