State Representative John M. Cabello has voiced his concerns over the recent incident involving a Venezuelan migrant in Chicago's Little Village. The migrant, allegedly a cartel member, was initially arrested but later released, prompting Cabello to express urgency regarding the situation.

Cabello emphasized that leniency towards criminal behavior from migrants who are in the country illegally is unacceptable. He stated, "The continued leniency toward criminal behavior from migrants – who are already in this country illegally – is unacceptable. Illinois leaders cannot continue to jeopardize the safety of our communities."

The incident involved a Venezuelan migrant with his last known address at a shelter for asylum seekers in Chicago. While the U.S. Marshals Service and the Chicago Police Department were initially involved in the arrest for attempted first-degree murder, no formal charges were ultimately filed, leading to the suspect's release.

Cabello stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in handling the migrant crisis. He highlighted the need for better strategies to ensure individuals with potential criminal backgrounds and harmful intentions are not treated more favorably than Illinois residents.
