Illinois Set to Open Spring Trout Season on April 6
The 2024 Illinois spring trout fishing season will open Saturday, April 6 at 58 ponds, lakes, and streams throughout the state. This announcement comes as the Illinois Department of Natural Resources prepares for the annual event, with a significant number of rainbow trout being stocked in various water bodies.
"The Illinois Catchable Trout Program receives funding support by those who use the program through the sale of inland trout stamps," said the department spokesperson. This funding mechanism allows for the procurement and stocking of more than 80,000 rainbow trout each year in designated areas where trout fishing is permitted during the spring season.
In addition to the trout allocated for the spring season, the spokesperson mentioned, "An additional 80,000 trout will be stocked for the fall trout season, which begins in October." This stocking initiative aims to provide ample opportunities for anglers to enjoy trout fishing throughout the year.
