Illinois State Senator Dave Syverson expressed his support for the officers involved in a recent shooting incident. "Our heartfelt prayers and positive thoughts are with the officers and their loved ones during this difficult time," he said in a Facebook post on June 12.
"Our heartfelt prayers and positive thoughts are with the officers and their loved ones during this difficult time," said Syverson, according to Facebook. "May they find strength and resilience in the face of adversity."
In his post, Syverson shared a link to a CBS News report about the shooting that occurred on June 12 in Dixon, Illinois, which injured three Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies. The suspect was also injured.

According to CBS News Chicago, the incident took place at 402 Wild Rice Lane, in the gated community of Lost Lake, northeast of Dixon. During the situation, hostage negotiators attempted to contact the barricaded individual more than 50 times. Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle told CBS News Chicago that when the emergency response team entered the premises, they were immediately met with gunfire.
On June 12, the Ogle County Sheriff's Office provided a summary of the incident on Facebook. The office stated that when they breached the home, suspect Jonathon Gounaris opened fire and they returned fire. Gounaris was injured in the exchange. One member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) was struck in his armor, another was shot in the upper arm, and a third was struck in the face. According to the sheriff’s office, two members of the ERT were transported to KSB Hospital where they were treated and released. The third injured member was flown to OSF St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford and underwent surgery that evening. The suspect was also transported to a local hospital for surgery.
Senator Syverson has been serving in the Illinois Senate since 1993 and is a lifelong resident of Illinois. He holds several positions within various committees including Spokesperson for the Insurance Committee, Health and Human Services Committee, and Appropriations (Health and Human Services) Committee. Additionally, he serves as Co-Chair of both the bipartisan Hospital Transformation Committee and Medicaid Reform Committee.
