"Living in Illinois means homeowners have to always be prepared for changes in the weather," said Sosnowski, according to Facebook.
According to Sosnowski, he shared a link to a blog post from the Illinois House Republicans Caucus blog, which offers various tips for winterizing homes. These suggestions include removing and storing window screens, replacing current windows with glass storm windows, caulking windows and doors to seal gaps, and repairing loose roofing shingles to prevent potential snow damage.

Illinois homeowners are also advised to prune trees by removing sick or dead limbs, clean and inspect gutters to reduce clogging risks, and secure outdoor water sources. The blog further recommends spraying door locks with powdered graphite lubricant to prevent freezing during winter.
Inside the home, there are measures that can enhance energy efficiency and avert unexpected issues. Homeowners are encouraged to service fireplaces, chimneys, and furnaces promptly to prevent fires that could harm property or cause injury. Adding insulation to attics or crawl spaces is suggested as a long-term investment that conserves heat where needed and reduces the risk of ice dams forming on roofs. This advice aligns with a Consumer Reports article on preparing homes for winter.
Sosnowski has represented Illinois since his election to the Illinois General Assembly in 2010. He currently serves the 69th District. His political career began on the DeKalb City Council before moving to Rockford, where he served as First Ward Alderman from 2005-2010. He is an alumnus of Northern Illinois University.
