The Belvidere assembly complex, known for producing cars and light trucks for Chrysler and Jeep over the past 50 years, was closed in February 2023. This closure affected more than 1,000 workers in Boone County.

Stellantis has announced plans to invest at least $1.2 billion to reopen the Belvidere assembly plant. The investment will be used to refit and re-tool the complex entirely. A full reopening is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs in Boone County. Stellantis intends to manufacture a mid-size truck at the Belvidere complex, with the nameplate yet to be decided. The reopening is tentatively scheduled for 2027.
