State Fair officials have announced new security protocols for the 2025 Illinois State Fair, set to begin August 7. The measures include stricter entry screenings and an expanded list of prohibited items.

Items that will not be allowed on the fairgrounds include firearms, with concealed carry specifically banned, as well as weapons such as knives, pepper spray, stun guns, brass knuckles, batons, and bats. Other prohibited items are illegal substances, drones or laser pointers, fireworks, and flammable materials. Officials say these steps aim to reduce risks and ensure a safe environment for attendees.

Additional precautions at Grandstand entrances will involve metal detectors and bag checks. Bags larger than 14 by 8 inches will not be permitted in the grandstands. Ticket holders who purchased their tickets via mobile devices are encouraged to download them ahead of time due to possible Wi-Fi issues near the venue.

The Illinois State Fair is scheduled from August 7 through August 17. Admission costs $10 for adults on Fridays and Saturdays and $5 from Sunday through Thursday. Senior citizens aged 60 or older pay $3; children under age 13 can enter free of charge. More information about daily schedules, vendors, competitions, attractions, and Grandstand events is available on the official Illinois State Fair website.

Syverson has represented Illinois’ 35th Senate District since his election in 1993 after succeeding Christine J. Johnson.
