SwedishAmerican Hospital issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.
Research has shown that a visit by a specially trained therapy dog and handler can reduce stress and pain levels, lower blood pressure and result in shorter hospital stays for many patients. SwedishAmerican started its Caring Canines program in 2010 and will soon be celebrating its eighth birthday.
The canines and their companions will hold a birthday party celebration in the SwedishAmerican Heart Hospital lobby, Charles Street entrance, on Thursday, September 27 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Patients and their families, along with SwedishAmerican staff members, are invited to stop by to get some “puppy love” and enjoy birthday cake. The dogs will even enjoy their own cake from the Canine Crunchery Pet Store.
