Rockford Police Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.
A Rockford man faces charges after robbing a business. On Tuesday, October 23, 2018 shortly after 2:00 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Dollar General (1015 Charles Street). Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect entered the store and handed a note to the cashier, which demanded money and implied he was armed. The suspect then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was hurt.
Detectives from the Rockford Police Department conducted a follow-up investigation into the incident and identified the suspect as 34-year-old Donald Thompson. As a result, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the below listed charges and a warrant was obtained. Thompson was taken into custody Tuesday night.
Donald Thompson, 34, Rockford: Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault
Thompson was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against Thompson are merely accusations. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court
