Village of Rockton Public Works Committee Meeting met Dec. 16

Village of Rockton met Dec. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Chairman Fridly called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Adams, Dan Barber, Kevin Bunge, Scott Fridly, Jodi May and Don Self Absent: Cory Magnus

Motion by Mrs. May, second by Mrs. Fridly, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of December 2, 2019. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

Public Comment None.

Village Engineer – Kevin Bunge

Village Engineer Kevin Bunge gave his report. A copy of his report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

Mayor - Dale Adams

Mayor Adams discussed the proposed parking lot at Hawick and Bridge Streets by Stenstrom and stated that this would create an additional 78 parking spots. Mayor Adams said that this was also discussed in the Administration Committee meeting and that they can look at it again in the spring. Mayor Adams advised the Committee that Stenstrom offered to loan the Village $650,000 - $700,000 at 4 percent interest for the parking lot project.

Water, Sewer, and Garbage – Scott Fridly

Mr. Fridly stated that the purchase requisition for Cropps Door Service to replace the garage door at the sewer plant in the amount of $1,740 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on December 17, 2019. The Committee was okay with this.

Streets and Walks – Cory Magnus

None.

Buildings and Parks – Jodi May

Mrs. May stated that the Parks & Recreation Director attendance at the “Everything Under the Sun” aquatics conference and trade show in Orlando, Florida from February 13 – 16, 2020 (not to exceed $1,500) is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on December 17, 2019. The Committee was okay with this.

Mrs. May added that the special events application for the “Hononegah Community High School Graduation Party” to be held June 6th or 7th (rain date) in Settlers Park from 4-10 pm is up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

Public Works – Dan Barber

Mr. Barber explained to the Committee that the state of Illinois is issuing new phosphorous levels and that each municipality has to come up with a program or join a watershed group. Mr. Barber stated that the Rock River Reclamation District (RRRD) is currently holding meetings and are creating a watershed group which consists of 17 members. Mr. Barber said that eight of those members are municipalities and that they would like the Village of Rockton to join the watershed group as well. Mr. Barber advised that the watershed group intends to form a board to run this and that he just wanted the Committee to be aware of what’s going on.

Mr. Barber stated that he had a few additional agenda items for Village Board that he is going to need a consensus for. Mr. Barber said that the streetlights on the Highway 75 bridge need to be replaced and that this is the Village’s responsibility. Mr. Barber added that they need to insert a valve (8” water main) at the Prairie Street water tower as well.

Mr. Barber stated that he would also like to add the approval of a cement pad at the sewer plant in the amount of $960 to the next agenda. Mr. Barber advised that this could be completed by the Public Works Department.

Parks and Recreation Director – Don Self

Mr. Self stated that there is a security light out at the athletic fields and that he is working on getting this fixed at no charge. Mr. Self advised that the Village will have to pay for any light repairs in the future.

Motion by Mrs. May, second by Mr. Fridly to adjourn at 7:03 pm.
