ROCKFORD — All employees in Illinois will now have to comply with a new workplace training law surrounding sexual harassment.
The Workplace Transparency Act, part of the new fiscal year budget, requires anyone employed full time, part time, or as an intern in the state of Illinois to complete a mandatory sexual harassment training program.
Maureen Mostacci, executive director of Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling Inc., told WIFR News that the training is "crucial in the workplace."
"If there's not an effective training or an effective reporting system in place then it can really lead to some detrimental effects on people who have to work in that type of environment," Mostacci told WIFR News.
State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) told WIFR News that "the goal of the program is really to help people understand what sexual harassment is and what their rights are."
All employees must complete the program by Dec. 31.
