CITY OF ROCKFORD: Mayor Joins State-Wide Board

Board

City of Rockford issued the following announcement on July 11.

The Cannabis Regulation and Trust Act legalized adult-use cannabis in Illinois on January 1, 2020. It also established the Restore, Reinvest and Renew program (R3). Mayor Tom McNamara recently joined the R3 Board. Chaired by Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, the board oversees and provides guidance to R3 program administration.

The R3 program invests 25% of tax revenues from adult use cannabis into communities most impacted by mass incarceration and the war on drugs. The negative consequences of the war on drugs have been felt far more severely by poor and disadvantaged communities throughout the state — mostly communities of color. R3 programs will be equitably funded within these communities to ensure needed services are provided to those who have been most harmed by criminal justice system overuse.

“I’m proud to have been invited to join this important board,” says Mayor McNamara. “We’re facing challenging times right now across the entire state, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to make sure that the communities who have historically been neglected and need funding the most receive it.”
