City of Carlyle Police Committee met June 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jeremy Weh at 3:30 p.m. at Carlyle City Hall. Committee members present included Jeremy Weh, Don Perez, and Logan Speiser. Others present included Chief Mark Pingsterhaus, Andy Brackett, and Martha Reinkensmeyer.

After reviewing the minutes from the March 16, 2020 meeting. Don Perez made a motion to approve the minutes. Logan Speiser seconded the meeting. After a voice vote, all were found in favor.

The first item on the agenda was part-time police officer hire. Chief explained that he would like to hire Alex Carson as a part-time officer. Logan Speiser made a motion to recommend that Council hire Alex Carson as a part-time officer. Don Perez seconded the motion. After a voice vote, all were found in favor.

The second item on the agenda was the stop sign at 7th and Livingston Streets. Chief stated that a resident has approached him about placing a stop sign at this location. The resident stated that traffic flies through this intersection. It was determined that the speed trailer would be placed at the intersection for awhile and that speed details may be conducted there, as well.

The third item on the agenda was a ‘No Thru Street’ sign on Deer Circle Drive. Andy stated that this has already been approved by the Street and Alley Committee. However, Logan Speiser also made a motion to recommend that a ‘No Thru Street’ sign be placed on Deer Circle Drive. Don Perez seconded the motion. After a voice vote, all were found in favor.

There was no old business.

The fourth item on the agenda was new business. Chief Pingsterhaus stated that Garrett Wade has been doing a lot of training with Jett and that the two are bonding well. Jason Herzing may be hired full-time by the FBI Task Force. If so, the City will receive a stipend that will be used to pay him for his increased hours. Jason will also receive a car that he will use while on duty for the FBI and he will have to report in person at the FBI office in Fairview Heights weekly. There was also a discussion on potential peaceful protests.

There were no any other comments.

There were no public comments.

The Committee did not enter executive session so there were no executive session items on which to vote.

With no further business to discuss, Don Perez made a motion to adjourn. Logan Speiser seconded the motion. Finding all in favor, the meeting was adjourned at 3:56 p.m.
