City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.
The first of two 14th Ward Drainage Projects as identified in the Stormwater Master Plan, as well as the City’s 2020-2024 Capital Improvement Program, has been announced.
The streambanks of Buckbee Creek have seen significant levels of erosion along its banks from Yale Drive south to the railroad tracks. As part of the Buckbee Creek Bank Stabilization project, the City plans to stabilize the creek bed and banks with layers of large rock, called rip-rap, to prevent further erosion damage and increase the creek’s water quality and environment.
With the design nearing completion, the City is currently working with various utilities located in the creek to both better protect and/or relocate those facilities as part of the project. The City plans to award a construction contract by the end of this year with construction scheduled to start in the spring of 2021. Completion of the $600,000 project is expected in the summer of 2021.
