City of Carlyle City Council met Oct. 26.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Judy Smith at 6 p.m. at Case Halstead Library, Carlyle, IL 62231. Those present included Mayor Judy Smith, Kent Newkirk, Shannon Petrea, Don Perez, Jeremy Weh, John Hodapp, Logan Speiser, Michael Jansen, Andy Brackett, Mark Pingsterhaus, and Martha Reinkensmeyer.
The purpose of the public hearing was to educate the public on the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) Grant application for the General Dean Suspension Bridge. Andy stated that the last time any major improvements were made to the bridge was in 1991. There are multiple structural issues that need to be addressed soon. The small fire that occurred recently did only cosmetic damage. That damage has been repaired. To properly fix the bridge would cost $284,400.00. With the ITEP Grant, 80 percent of the project would be funded through the grant and the City would be responsible for 20 percent. The City would front the cost and then be reimbursed for eligible expenses. Andy advised those present that a resolution will be on the Council agenda later this evening that must be passed for him to proceed with the application. He added that he has letters of support from local legislators and the Corps of Engineers. It was agreed by all present that the General Dean Suspension Bridge is an integral link to the walking and biking paths in Carlyle and is important historical landmark.
The public hearing was adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
