Illinois State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) recently attended the Illinois v. Missouri Legislative Charitable Softball Game.

Syverson shared his experience and photos in an Aug. 10 Facebook post.

"Had the opportunity to play in the Illinois vs Missouri Legislative Charitable Softball Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis Monday night," Syverson wrote "While we lost 8-6, I’m proud that as the old guy on the field I held my own: got a couple hits and drove in two runs. Shows that age and experience still matters."

The 2022 Illinois vs. Missouri Legislative softball game is a tradition among the legislators from the two states. According to The Missouri Times, the '19 game was rained out, and Missouri Rep. Travis Fitzwater (R) was named MVP - he'd been the only one able to get up to bat before the rain hit.

Pantagraph quotes Illinois Rep. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) about the bipartisan nature of the teams and their differences. Hoffman was Illinois' team manager.

"I think everybody's mindful (that) there's differences between our state governments," Hoffman said. "And everybody's mindful about we as a country need to stop this bickering, we need to stop this infighting, we need to move the country forward."

Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, a Democrat from Chicago was Illinois' MVP, according to Pantagraph.
