A Disaster Recovery Center has been established in Winnebago County to assist residents affected by the severe weather from July 13 to 16, 2024. The center is a collaborative effort involving specialists from FEMA, the state of Illinois, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. These specialists are available to help survivors apply for federal disaster assistance, upload necessary documents, answer questions in person, and provide access to additional support services. They also offer guidance on making properties more resistant to future disasters.

The center is located at Forest City Church, 1280 S. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. It operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while remaining closed on Sundays.

Survivors have multiple options for applying for FEMA assistance without needing to visit the center physically. Applications can be submitted online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app, or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. For those using relay services like video relay service or captioned telephone service, it is advised to provide their specific service number when applying.

Further details about the disaster recovery efforts in Illinois can be found on FEMA's official website at www.fema.gov/disaster/4819.
