Cherry Valley FPD responds to 40 fires in 2016

Cherry Valley Fire Protection District responded to 111 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the Rockford Sun.

The calls in Cherry Valley included 40 fires - 20 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 11 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $81,050 in fire loss - or about $2,026 per fire.

The department also received 71 false calls, including one malicious call and 70 other false calls.

The Cherry Valley FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and retired or inactive employee, was $62,020 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,550 for every fire in 2016.
