Mercy Rockford Health System issued the following announcement on May 17.
Mercyhealth invites the media to its National EMS Week celebration in Rockford from Noon-2pm on Monday, May 20, at the Mercyhealth Prehospital and Emergency Services Center, 2623 Edgemont St., Rockford (directly behind the Rockton Campus).
In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. EMS is the acronym for Emergency Medical Services. This term refers to the treatment and transport of people in crisis health situations that may be life threatening. The theme for this year’s EMS week brings attention to the fact that our emergency medical services providers routinely go “Beyond the Call.”
“Mercyhealth knows first responders are a committed, caring group of men and women that help save lives routinely,” said Dr. Jay MacNeal, EMS Medical Director at Mercyhealth. “What people often underestimate is how their contributions to the community goes far ‘Beyond the Call.’”
MacNeal said EMS providers routinely participate in CPR/AED, bleeding control, first aid, Narcan training, car seat inspections and numerous other projects to help save and improve lives in their communities.
“They participate in career fairs, county fairs, festivals and many other public events,” said MacNeal. “They are an integral part of our communities’ well-being. They are role models for our children and a source of pride for our communities.”
Mercyhealth’s staff will salute EMS providers for their hard work, and their willingness to go “Beyond the Call” at Monday’s cookout at the Mercyhealth Prehospital and Emergency Services Center.
