Mercy Rockford Health System issued the following announcement on July 2.
Mercyhealth invites the community to its free Health and Safety Station event for kids from 10 am to 2 pm, Saturday, July 20, in the back parking lot of the Javon Bea Hospital and Physician Clinic–Rockton campus at 2300 N. Rockton Ave.
Kids will learn important health information while enjoying free activities for all ages. At designated stops, kids will receive free school supplies, while supplies last. The first 200 kids get a free, fitted bike helmet.
While they’re having fun, kids will learn how to make their own first aid kid, healthy snack ideas, swimming and bike safety, the importance of stopping cyber-bullying and more. Car seat safety checks will also be available.
Guests can tour emergency vehicles, including Mercyhealth’s REACT helicopter, an MD-1 emergency response vehicle, an ambulance and a fire truck with smoke trailer. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile will also be open for tours.
Other fun activities include face painting, magic shows with Mr. Steve, train rides around the event from The Great Chicago Kiddie Express Train Company, a rock climbing wall experience from the YMCA, and demonstrations by the Discovery Center and Burpee Museum of Natural History.
“Having this Health and Safety event on the city’s west side is part of my personal commitment, and that of the Mercyhealth Board of Directors, its management team and all of our incredible passionate and caring health care team, to our Rockton Avenue hospital and medical campus,” said Javon R. Bea, President/CEO of Mercyhealth.
