City of Rockford Community Action Agency Executive Committee met Jan. 24.

II. GENERAL INFORMATION 

a. Contact Rodney Reilly, for assistance in Boone Co.

b. Community Gardens

i. Wanting to partner with schools, but don’t know how that will look.

1. Nutrition program to show how to identify vegetables or how to cook them over their life span.

ii. Best partnerships would be community centers and houses of faith. 

c. RPS Dental Care Set up at schools

i. Have dental services through the schools provided by grants.

d. Head start needs mental health services.

i. To provide support for students.

ii. Parents feel ill-equipped to handle children.

e. Funding

i. What does that look like for our program? Very difficult to get employees or get them to stay.

1. Spending 7% of available funding.

2. Find Low-Income families to buy homes again

Put money in Habitat for Humanity to fix homes

III. OFFICER REPORTS

i. Domestic & Community Violence Meeting

1. Working through the community to not be in gangs

2. Trying to get safe spaces for children.

ii. Where does education Start?

1. Teaching needs to start at the bottom and work up, working on a program through high school.

b. Mike Chamberlain:

i. Schools need more discipline for children and parents.

1. Teaching accountability to children is nothing new.

ii. Build neighborhood, block by block.
