Mercy Rockford Health System issued the following announcement on May 24.
The Mercyhealth EMS System is pleased to announce the graduation of its 2019 Rockford Paramedic Class at Javon Bea Hospital and Physician Clinic–Rockton. The paramedic class graduated with 11 students on Thursday, May 23. This is a 10 month, full-time training program coordinated through Mercyhealth’s Prehospital and Emergency Services Center. Students spend a minimum of 1,200 hours in training. In order to graduate, they must have a minimum of an 80% pass rate.
The graduation was held during National Emergency Medical Services Week, a week when we salute paramedics and emergency medical professionals throughout the region.
“Our EMS partners are called upon to help others during their time of need,” said Javon R. Bea, President/CEO at Mercyhealth. “They provide a sense of security and relief during traumatic accidents. They ensure the seriously ill and injured receive what they deserve … a second chance at life.”
Mercyhealth has a long tradition of doing whatever it takes to ensure area first responders have the training and tools to provide the best prehospital care possible. Mercyhealth’s Prehospital and Emergency Services Centers have trained tens of thousands of paramedics and EMTs in the health system’s Janesville, Walworth and Rockford locations.
“Our highly trained emergency physicians work alongside first responders to bring hospital-level care at the scene of an accident or medical emergency through our MD-1 emergency response program,” said Bea. “Our Tactical Training Center and state-of-the-art simulation labs train first responders and law enforcement to provide medical treatment faster during mass shootings and other trauma events.”
The Rockford Paramedic Program meets the requirements for education of paramedics as recommended by the U.S. Department of Transportation and has been approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health as a provider course and for all EMT levels on an hour-for-hour CEU basis.
Mercyhealth is currently taking applications for the 2019-2020 Rockford Paramedic Program. The deadline to register is June 5. Application packets are available at www.mercyems.org.
