State Senator Dave Syverson recently participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Habitat for Humanity home in Boone County. The event marked the beginning of construction for the Franco Gonzalez family, who have been residents of Belvidere for 18 years.

Senator Syverson emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “This is more than just building a house. It’s about giving a family stability, hope, and a fresh start.” He expressed pride in contributing to an initiative that unites people to create a positive impact on the community.

The Franco Gonzalez family will contribute 300 hours of "sweat equity" as part of their commitment to Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers will assist alongside them in constructing the home, with completion anticipated by year-end. Senator Syverson and his team plan to help with tasks such as interior painting.

Those interested in volunteering can reach out to Len Lindeman, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Boone County, at 815-975-5182 or visit their Facebook page.
