Republican state Rep. Joe Sosnowski is feeling good vibes all around from the second annual Kids Bike and Fitness Day.
“We presented Rockford Rescue Mission and The Pregnancy Care Center with a check from our 2021 Kids Bike-a-Thon event,” Sosnowski recently posted on Facebook. “The Rockford Rescue Mission and The Pregnancy Care Center are amazing resources for our community and we’re happy to support them.”
Sponsored by Sosnowski and held at Midway Village, the event is part of the veteran lawmaker’s mission to keep kids in his family engaged in healthy outdoor activities. Part of the day’s events featured the kids being challenged to see how many times they could bike the path with the rider racing the most laps leaving the track with a prize.
“People are excited to get outdoors as they have been,” Sosnowski told WIFR. “We like to help out and promote Midway Village also, it’s such a great asset that we have here in the community. From a show of hands, it looked like about half the kids hadn’t even ridden the bike path, so it’s exciting.”
The Rockford Rescue Mission offers community meals, crisis centers for men and for women, a residential life recovery program, the Hope Clinic, a Thrift Store, and education and employment opportunities.
The Pregnancy Care Center offers free services for individuals who experience unplanned pregnancy ranging from testing to ultrasounds, parenting classes and other resources.
