The North Boone Community Unit School District Board of Education recently approved an intent to levy and heard a tentative plan for the 2022 levy.

During the Nov. 15 board meeting, which was streamed online, Interim Business Director Dr. Michael Zelek outlined details of the levy and offered several items for the board to keep the district on track toward its budget plan. The board approved the intent to levy and will vote on the final levy in December before sending it on to the County.

“You know, we just want to make sure that we capture the new growth and the CPI,” Zelek told the board during the meeting.

The plan is to increase the levy to ensure that the district can continue to provide students with current curricular offerings, Zelek noted. Therefore, North Boone will seek a 7.79% increase in its levy, though it expects to only receive a boost of approximately 6.08%, which includes bonds and a maximum 5% CPI.

During the meeting, the board agreed to keep Abatement No. 1, approximately $2.5 million; but it decided against Abatement option No. 2, which would have added another $200,000. Option No. 1 would cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $96 a month, while adding option No. 2 would have raised the cost to approximately $132.
