Village of Rockton Administration Committee met July 31.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Mr. Winters called the regular meeting of the Administration Committee to order at 5:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dave Winters and Justin York
Staff present: Dan Barber, Tricia Diduch and Chief Hollinger
Absent: Scott Danielson
Motion by Mr. York, second by Mr. Winters, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of July 17, 2023. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Mr. Barber stated that Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA) updated the letter that they send out to residents in regards to water/sewer line coverage. Mr. Barber wanted to make sure everyone was okay with this since the Village gives SLWA permission to use the Village logo on their mailings. Mr. Winters stated that he was okay with it and that it’s up to residents if they choose to purchase the policy or not. Mr. York inquired if the Village can renegotiate the agreement with SLWA since the Village receives a small portion for each policy that is sold. Mr. Barber stated that he would look into this further.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – SCOTT DANIELSON, CHAIRMAN

PUBLIC SAFETY & LEGAL – DAVE WINTERS
Motion by Mr. Winters to approve the purchase order for Crimestar in the amount of $1,410, second by Mr. York. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.
Motion by Mr. Winters to approve the purchase order for Net2Phone in the amount of $902.61, second by Mr. York. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.
ADMINISTRATION – JUSTIN YORK
Mr. York stated that Garcea is still in the process of completing the IT upgrades to the server and that he requested for everything to be photographed and labeled so that it can be saved digitally in the Village Clerk’s office.
THE CHIEF– MATT HOLLINGER
Chief Hollinger advised the Committee that the Rockton Police Department responded to an apartment building located at 744 Salem Street for a fire alarm on Saturday. Chief Hollinger said that three officers entered an apartment (that was believed to be occupied) through a patio door where they found a woman in her bedroom filled with smoke. Chief Hollinger said that the officers were able to put out the fire and take the woman to safety. Chief Hollinger stated that he will be recognizing these officers.
Chief Hollinger added stated that three officers will be graduating from the police academy on August 10th and will start field training when they return. Chief Hollinger added that another officer will be sworn in on August 15th.
Chief Hollinger said that the new speed trailer is in and that they will be using it for the Rockton River Market (RRM).
Chief Hollinger stated that they are still trying to work a few bugs out with the new front door and access system at Village Hall.
Chief Hollinger thanked the Public Works Department for helping move some office furniture from the Goldie Floberg building to the police department.
PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATOR – TRICIA DIDUCH
Ms. Diduch stated that the planning for the Rockton Christmas Walk has begun.
Ms. Diduch added that the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) walking tours are coming up and that they will be held on Saturday mornings to hopefully increase attendance for those that can’t make it during the week. Ms. Diduch said that there will be a series of three walking tours and that one will be held on October 14th at the Rockton Township Cemetery.
