The Illinois State Library is proud to present the Illinois Veterans History Project (IVHP), a heartfelt initiative dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who have served our great nation. The IVHP has been tirelessly working to create a permanent record of our veterans' names and stories, ensuring that their sacrifices and contributions are never forgotten.
The IVHP collection features over 6,700 records from Illinois veterans, spanning from the Civil War era to those currently serving on active duty. Among these records are 675 captivating oral histories that offer a unique glimpse into the experiences of our veterans.
"We are committed to collecting the firsthand narratives of U.S. military veterans," said the IVHP team. "Our mission is to preserve the stories of Illinois heroes and ensure that their legacies shine bright for generations to come."
Participation in the project is open to veterans, civilians, and their cherished family members. The IVHP welcomes personal stories, photos, and mementos that contribute to this meaningful project. To participate, individuals can complete the Illinois Patriot Information Form, available in a large-print version, and submit it to the Illinois State Library via email or mail.
